Services

Our state of the art laboratory offers many different services in relation to asphalt quality analysis. Please click on one of the services to get a list of what we offer:

  1. CONVENTIONAL ASPHALT CEMENT TESTING
  2. SHRP ASPHALT CEMENT PERFORMANCE GRADING
  3. SPECIAL AC Testing

CONVENTIONAL ASPHALT CEMENT TESTING

Absolute (vacuum capillary) Viscosity

Flash Point (volatile fraction)

Ductility

Elastic Recovery

Kinematic (capillary) Viscosity

Penetration

Softening Point

Solubility (1,1,2-trichloroethylene)

Specific Gravity

Aggregate / AC Adhesion (Stripping test)

Polymer Storage Stability

AC has traditionally been tested to assess its physical properties through capillary viscometry and penetration test methods.  Data collected from these tests can be used to evaluate the flow properties of the hot asphalt, and the mid-temperature range behavior under compaction and service loads

SHRP ASPHALT CEMENT PERFORMANCE GRADING

Direct Tension Tester (critical cracking temperature)

Bending Beam Rheometry (low temperature performance)

Dynamic Shear Rheometry (mid to high temperature performance)

Flash Point (volatile fraction)

Pressure Aging Vessel (long term aging)

Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (mass change and short term aging)

 Rotational Viscometry (mixing and compaction)

One advantage offered by the Superior Performing Asphalt Pavement program, which is new to Western Canada, lies in its ability to characterize and differentiate between low temperature behaviors for asphalt cements, especially for those which behave similarly at mid to high temperatures under conventional testing.  The Western Canadian climate makes the advantages offered by the Superpave program quite obvious.

 SPECIAL AC Testing

Crumb Rubberized Asphalt Cement

Blending / Testing (Acid and Polymer)

 Asphaltene Blended AC

Toughness and Tenacity
